Coral Adventurer

Launched in April 2019, Coral Adventurer is an expedition ship purpose-designed to access remote wilderness shores that are often inaccessible to large cruise vessels.

The ship’s dual Xplorer expedition tenders extend the capabilities of the ship by allowing deeper exploration on shore excursions. These ‘safari jeeps’ of the sea are fast, sturdy, and comfortable and developed to allow easy boarding from the ship and walk-off disembarkation onto remote shores.

Carrying a maximum of 120 passengers –  Coral Adventurer is purpose-built to take you closer to unspoiled vistas in comfort, style, and safety.

  • Two ‘Xplorer’ tenders facilitate comfortable shore excursions
  • Six zodiacs allow for more intrepid exploration
  • Lecture lounge, for daily expedition briefings and expert presentations
  • Small onboard library featuring books on destinations and wildlife
  • A well equipped gym
  • Passenger elevator
  • Wi-Fi throughout the ship
  • Shallow draft and advanced navigation and propulsion systems, allowing access to locations closed to larger cruise ships

Cuisine

With a maximum of 120 guests, your chefs have the creative freedom to prepare small batch meals from fresh, seasonal produce. The dining room offers open seat dining, without the need to reserve a table. Meals are served in a combination of family table platters and table d’hote. Morning and afternoon teas are also provided, as is 24-hour access to tea and coffee.

Selected beers, wines and spirits are included with lunch and dinner service, as well as soft drinks and juices. Fresh drinking water is available onboard at water stations. There are wine selections that guests may purchase in addition to the included house selection.

Cabins

The Coral Adventurer features all outside-facing guest cabins with ensuite bathrooms; the majority have a private balcony. Active stabilisers dampen sea motion whilst travelling on your voyage. Coral Adventurer also features a well equipped gym, passenger elevator and Wi-Fi in all areas for guest comfort.

  • Get up close to Montgomery Reef and discover the tidal reef’s diverse marine life
  • Experience King George River and 80m tall twin King George Waterfalls
  • Cruise the Prince Regent River to the ‘hanging garden’ King Cascade waterfall

  • Spot native wildlife and birdlife in their natural habitat
  • View the Kimberley landscape by air on a scenic helicopter flight to Mitchell Falls (additional cost)
  • Enjoy sunset canapes and drinks on the beach as dusk settles over the Kimberley

For the opposite direction, the itinerary is in reverse.

Day 1: Depart Darwin/Broome

Board your vessel at Darwin Fort Hill Wharf at 8:30 am for a 9:00 am departure or arrive at the Mangrove Hotel in Broome at 3:30pm before transferring to Deep Water Port for a 4:00pm boarding. Get settled, explore the ship, then gather for a welcome briefing and sunset drinks as we begin navigating toward the Kimberley coast.

Cruise Highlights

King George River and Falls (Oomari Falls)

Cruise through Gardner Plateau gorges into the mist spray of the dramatic King George Falls, Western Australia’s tallest twin waterfalls. Depending on the season, experience up-close views of honeycomb sandstone formations or thundering waterfalls in the earlier months, in our Xplorer tenders.

Vansittart Bay (Banjal)

Explore Vansittart Bay’s ancient Gwion Gwion rock art galleries and visit Jar Island’s Makassan pottery shards. From the Anjo Peninsula, view the preserved C-53 Skytrooper aircraft wreck, grounded in 1942 and now a haunting historical site reflecting wartime aviation mystery.

Mitchell Falls / Swift Bay

Enjoy helicopter (optional extra) access to Mitchell Falls amid tiered waterfalls and emerald pools, or explore Swift Bay’s cave labyrinth of sandstone tunnels, home to Wandjina and Gwion rock art galleries, before an evening BBQ under the Kimberley’s iconic sunset.

Prince Frederick Harbour and Bigge Island (Wuuyuru)

Cruise into Porosus Creek up Prince Regent River to explore mangrove-lined waterways with sea eagles and mudskippers. Visit Bigge Island (Wuuyuru) to learn about Wunambal culture among monsoon forests, mudflats and coastal ecosystems.

Prince Regent River

Traverse down the straight fault-line of the Prince Regent River by tender to reach King Cascade. From Xplorers’ view, cascading layered falls and lush vegetation, framed by dramatic sandstone walls, rush into the river below.

Careening Bay

Step ashore in Careening Bay to see the historic Mermaid Boab Tree, carved by Lt. King’s carpenter in 1820. Learn the story of HMC Mermaid and explore coastal forests beside pristine ocean waters in this evocative Kimberley bay.

Montgomery Reef (Yowjab)

With 11-metre tides, Montgomery Reef emerges dramatically at low tide. Explore by tender through cascading rock pools and riffles filled with marine life. Watch birds, turtles, dolphins and dugongs feed in this shifting reef ecosystem spectacle.

Doubtful Bay

Discover Doubtful Bay’s remote beauty, hike to Ruby Falls at Red Cone Creek and navigate rock formations to crystal freshwater pools. Enjoy light bushwalking and scenic swimming in a tranquil setting on this secluded stretch.

Horizontal Falls (Lalang-garram) and Buccaneer Archipelago

Witness the rushing waters of Horizontal Falls on Zodiac tenders, classed among the most incredible natural wonders. Then cruise the rugged Buccaneer Archipelago, visiting the Iron Islands and Nares Point before enjoying sunset drinks aboard the ship.

The Lacepede Islands

If tides and weather permit, explore the Lacepede Islands, a Class‑A nature reserve. Witness seabird rookeries, green turtle nesting zones, and glide through coastal lagoons aboard our tenders for an immersive wildlife experience.

Day 11: Arrive in Broome (or Darwin)

Arrive in Broome at 8:00 am or Darwin at 9:00 am and disembark. Transfers to hotels or the airport are included. Extend your journey to explore Cable Beach, Chinatown, Darwin‘s waterfront or the Wave Pool at your leisure.

Embrace the unexpected – it’s part of the adventure. This itinerary is a guide. Your Captain will adjust plans based on weather, tides, wildlife, and opportunities we encounter. Remote communities may be unavailable due to local customs. Flexibility makes expeditions special.
