The luxury rail line will be introducing two new accommodations in 2026
Great Southern Rail has announced their new ‘Australis’ and ‘Aurora Suites’ will be coming to The Ghan in 2026, offering a new level of luxury to railway travel in Australia. With fares beginning at $11,890 per person (Australis Suite) and $7,990 per person (Aurora Suite), the price point reflects the level of luxury.
Design firm Woods Bagot was commissioned to create interior designs that “embody art deco luxury while capturing a sense of the outback and the authentic landscapes through which the trains traverse”. The result is a rich and layered design, expressed through bespoke detailing, decorative timber accents, stone masonry, iron filigree, and coved ceilings that reference traditional cornices.

AUSTRALIS SUITE
The Australis Suite is advertised by Journey Beyond as ‘the most luxurious suite in Australian train travel’. At three times the size of a Platinum cabin on The Ghan, it features a separate bedroom with a fixed queen-sized bed, full lounge set, personal bar and en suite with double vanity and premium Jurlique amenities. This Suite also has a writing desk as well as a wardrobe and ample room to stretch your legs or host friends and family in-suite. Additional features include:

- Premium Australian wine selection
- Personalised in-suite bar
- In-room dining available
- Butler service
- Luxurious bed linen and pillow menu

The Aurora Suite is double the size of a Platinum cabin and features a fixed queen-sized bed, lounge set and en suite with premium Jurlique amenities. You’ll also have a wardrobe and plenty of room to move throughout the Suite allowing for a luxurious stay. Additional features include:
