See the Bungle Bungles before or after your cruise

|

This 2 night $949 pp package offer is exclusive to the Kimberley Cruise Centre

Do you dream of visiting Purnululu National Park? Well, now is the time! Take advantage of our special 2 night package offer before or after your cruise.

Unlike other national treasures, the Bungle Bungles has only been known to white Europeans since the early 1980s when a film crew showcased the area to the world. The 240,000-hectare national park has now received UNESCO World Heritage listing. Of course, Purnululu was known to Indigenous people long before that, and the Gija and Jaru people are recognised as its traditional custodians.

DAY 1: KUNUNURRA & THE ORD VALLEY

Arrive into Kununurra from your cruise or domestic flight and enjoy a one hour tour of the Ord Valley this afternoon with a Kimberley Cruise Centre staff member (because we live here!) before being dropped to your accommodation, the Kimberley Grande.

Overnight: The Kimberley Grande, Garden View Room. No meals included.

DAY 2: WALKING PURNULULU (BUNGLE BUNGLES) INCLUDING THE DOMES, CATHEDRAL GORGE AND PICCANINNY CREEK

Start your day with a one hour scenic flight from Kununurra in an air-conditioned, high wing aeroplane flying over the Ord Irrigation Area, the Ord Top Dam wall, Lake Kununurra and the full expanse of Lake Argyle. View the Carr Boyd Ranges, Osmand Ranges, the Ord River and the Bow River.

Experience spectacular aerial views of the Bungle Bungle in the Purnululu National Park. Land at a remote unsealed airfield in Purnululu National Park and transfer to an airconditioned 4WD bus, where your guide will drive you closer to the Bungle Bungle Range. Enjoy a moderate 3km guided walk amongst the famous eroded towers and black and orange banded beehive structures on the Domes Walk. The unique tiger stripes are caused by cyanobacteria, a type of algae, which create the dark colour that contrasts beautifully with the rusty, red stripes of oxidised rock. Beneath the surface is white sandstone. The domes are impressive from the ground and a walk through them is unforgettable.

Your guide will take you into Cathedral Gorge, where towering cliffs open up to form a space with awe inspiring natural acoustics. Here you will rest and enjoy your lunch. Cathedral Gorge is  one of Australia’s most striking geological landmarks and it’s a great place to reflect and relax in. This red-rock gorge was carved out over time by wet season rains that caused whirlpools to swirl and scour within. If you thought the acoustics in your shower were good, try singing in Cathedral Gorge. Voices carry around the gorge and you can hear the conversations of people on the other side.

Walk along the bed of Piccaninny Creek, which flows only in the monsoon waterfall season.  Learn about the Kimberley climate, the six seasons and unique flora and fauna so important to the traditional custodians of the land.

Return via a scenic flight to Kununurra, on the way viewing the Argyle Diamond Mine where rare pink diamonds were once mined.

Overnight: The Kimberley Grande, Garden View Room. Lunch and afternoon tea included today.

Option – stay overnight in the Bungle Bungles! Please enquire with us.
