This is a spectacular way to start your Kimberley adventure. Your crew will welcome you onboard and enjoy a delicious lunch before we set off to explore the Hunter River, an incredibly scenic waterway rich with fat Barramundi and succulent Mud Crabs. This afternoon you will have the option to take the helicopter up to Manning Peak for sunset drinks.

DAY 2: York Sound

In the morning, we will cruise around to York Sound, where we will set off for a walk through a tropical rainforest arriving for a swim at Benno’s waterfall. Tide depending, we will fish for Barramundi around Boongari Island. After lunch, we will cruise to Careening Bay for an expedition to view the historic Boab Tree that Philip Parker King carved in 1820 when they careened their vessel for repairs. We will anchor for the night at Python Cliffs, under the shadow of Mount Waterloo and Trafalgar. The scenery in this area is incredible.

DAY 3: St Georges Basin

With luck, the tides will allow us the chance for an early morning fish. We will then cruise down through Saint Georges Basin to the mouth of the Prince Regent and onto the infamous King Cascade. The Skipper will position the boat under the waterfall for a beautiful photo. After anchoring the boat in the river, we will take the tender boats across to the river’s edge to walk up through the rocky outcrops and along the fern-lined waterfall, arriving at a waterhole at the rear of the waterfall. There is an opportunity for a scenic heli flight overhead to see this unique river system from the air.

Camden Harbour is steeped in history as the first attempted European settlement in the Kimberley. It failed dismally, and we will delve into that history as we explore the old settlement. Tide permitting, we will gather a sumptuous feast of Kimberley Rock Oysters and then cruise past Kuri Bay on our way to Sampson Inlet.

DAY 5: Montgomery Reef

Raising the anchor early, we will then take a cruise to Montgomery Reef, a fascinating reef structure that creates spectacular cascading waterfalls in the middle of the ocean. The unique tidal flows of Montgomery Reef are a sight to behold as we take an early morning cruise along this unique reef structure. Your crew will describe the incredible history of the area while we search for grazing Turtles, roving Sharks and the odd Dugong. You will then have the exciting opportunity to view the reef from the air, thanks to our onboard helicopter. After the turn of the tide, we will cruise to Doubtful Bay and anchor for the evening.

DAY 12: Doubtful Bay

Wake up to panoramic views of the magnificent Raft Point headland. We will spend the day exploring waterfalls, swimming and fishing in the Glenelg River, Red Cone Creek or Three Ways. You will join the crew and your fellow guests to watch the sunset and toast your day of adventure.

DAY 13: Talbot Bay

On your last full day onboard, you will wake in the Talbot Bay area, where we experience the world-famous Horizontal Falls via tender boat, with the option of also doing a scenic flight. We will enjoy lunch onboard as we cruise out of Talbot Bay, weaving past many little islands and through the Koolan Island Gap. Perhaps you will enjoy a freshwater swim at Dugong Bay. We can also swim in turquoise waters and explore silica-white sand beaches. In the late afternoon, we will commence our cruise past Cape Leveque, celebrating our final evening together onboard as we make our way to Broome.

DAY 14: Broome

After sharing so many experiences with the crew and fellow guests, this is a big day for everyone. We steam overnight into Broome and disembark the boat at 8:00 am for your bus transfer to your Broome accommodation.

BROOME – ROWLEY SHOALS – BROOME

DAY 1: Depart Broome

Your crew will welcome you aboard your luxury vessel around 5:00pm with drinks and canapés, before you settle in for dinner as we cruise towards the Rowley Shoals. You will have the night to familiarise yourself with the boat, meet your fellow passengers and settle into your cabin.

DAY 2: Clerk Reef

After arriving at Clerk Reef at approximately 8:00 am, Great Escape will navigate the narrow channel to anchor inside the lagoon. Here we will embark on our first dive of the trip, allowing you to familiarise yourself with the equipment and the new environment. The area is abundant with colourful coral, small caves and a multitude of tropical fish species.

The second dive for the day will be a drift dive through the channel to Clerk Reef, after which lunch will be served inside the lagoon. There’s a great opportunity here to enjoy some snorkelling before we head off for an afternoon drift along the edge of the atoll. You can throw a line in to possibly catch a Sailfish or two. Light permitting, we will end the day with another snorkelling expedition before enjoying drinks and an evening meal.

DAY 3: The Western Wall & Tiger Alley

Great Escape will set off to dive the Western Wall, a coral-encrusted wall with a steep drop and a rocky bottom where you can explore cracks and caves dotted with shells and tropical fish. A cooked breakfast will be served back on board as we cruise to the next dive site which is populated with pelagic fish and larger sharks. After an exciting dive in this area, we will have a delicious lunch on the deck.

In the afternoon, we will cruise around to dive ‘Tiger Alley’, where it’s common to see Tuna, Mackerel, Sharks and large Cod. At sunset, there is an excursion to the sandy cay to observe the rare red-tailed tropical birds that nest on Bedwell Island.

DAY 4: The Crevasse

The first dive of the day will be at ‘The Crevasse’. After breakfast and there is time for reef fishing, snorkelling or skurfing. In the afternoon, we can take a quick exploratory dive before heading back in to setup for the night dive, which will take us around the outer edge of the lagoon.

We will arrive back at the boat just before 8:00 pm for dinner.

DAY 5: Mermaid Reef

The day will start with another early dive along the western wall before retuning to the boat for breakfast and cruising over to Mermaid Reef. We will then dive at both ‘V in the wall’ – a large V-shaped bommie jutting out of the reef edge – as well as ‘The Cod Hole’. As the name suggests, three big Potato Cod live here and they like to get up close and personal. The boat will then head in at sunset to anchor up for the evening. At this time we can go skurfing, snorkelling or take off on a night dive to the outer wall. As Mermaid Reef is a National Marine Reserve, there is no fishing permitted here.

DAY 6: The Wall, The Net & The Caves

Today we set off for the most spectacular dive site of the Rowley Shoals, known simply as ‘The Wall’. This is a drift dive through a reef with a sheer vertical wall that plunges down 110 metres. Large sharks can be spotted here, including the rare greater hammerhead. Before lunch we will dive down to ‘The Caves’, a great area for finding sleeping turtles and unusual shells.

The afternoon dive is at ‘The Net’, our most challenging dive site. You will swim through an intricate web of reef, bommies, overhanging caves and cracks. This dive goes as far down as 40 metres, with stunning coral formations and tropical fish species to be found in abundance. The last dive of the trip will be at twilight, before we pack up and cruise back to Broome.

DAY 7: Return to the Wall

We’re always asked to dive ‘The Wall’ again, which we can do before breakfast. This will be followed by another drift in the channel as this is also a favourite. Plans will be dependent upon the tides. After lunch, we will do an exploratory dive on an area of the outer reef edge, before heading back into the lagoon to pick up the tenders and prepare for the all-night cruise back to Broome. The last dive of the trip will be at ‘The Cod Hole’.

DAY 8: Broome

Arrive back in Broome to disembark at 8am for your transfer back to your accommodation or Broome Airport.
