Who can participate in our cruises?
Kimberley Quest II can cater for all adult ages and levels of fitness. Expeditions are tailor made to suit individuals needs. Sit back and unwind in the tranquil surroundings or get involved and participate in every excursion.
Excursions are run daily, offering a variety of options. From scenic tender rides, fishing, bush walking,( treks vary in difficulty and your crew will brief you accordingly) bird watching and nature viewing – do as much or as little as you like. Most excursions are undertaken via our custom built tenders so a modicum level of agility / fitness is required to enter and exit the tenders
Our cruises are generally not suitable for children due to the nature of the expeditions. Please contact our office for our terms & conditions regarding children. Private charters are the only exception to bringing children onboard the Kimberley Quest.
What's included in the price?
All transfers are provided between your accommodation and the Kimberley Quest. Expeditions departing or arriving in Wyndham also include transfer to and from Kununurra to the vessel.
Our prices include all meals, daily excursions (excluding additional scenic flights) and linen, including excursion towels.
Airfares and pre / post accommodation are not included in the price although we are happy to assist or advise you with your accommodation arrangements. If your cruise is in the months June, July or August we would advise that you book your accommodation as early as possible as this is a peak period in the Kimberley. Please contact our office for assistance.
Our prices do not include alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. We offer a comprehensive beverage list for you to pre-order from and will stock your cabin accordingly. If you require any items not listed, please advise us and we will endeavour to supply your beverage needs. Please note that where an item is not available at time of order an equivalent substitute will be used. Payment will be collected at the conclusion of your cruise.
The Kimberley Quest also carries a small selection of spirits, beer, wine and soft drinks for purchase on board as well as exclusively stocking Hackersley wines, from the famous Margaret River wine region. These may be purchased by the bottle, (in the case of spirits and wine) or by the block or carton (beer) & by the can (for soft drinks & mixers)
You are more than welcome to bring your own beverages onboard. Please be mindful of our 10kg baggage allowance policy (7 day cruises only).
We provide plenty of fresh cold drinking water aboard the Kimberley Quest however should you wish to order bottled water then please do so. It is a good idea to order a couple of small bottles of water to take on excursions although drinking water is provided in the tenders.
Our talented chefs offer a diverse range of cuisine, incorporating some of the best local produce and of course Kimberley tastes such as barramundi and mud crabs, all prepared in the fully equipped gourmet galley. Our chefs happily cater for all dietary requirements and special needs. Please specify on your Booking Form if you have any special requirements or allergies.
The Kimberley Quest requests that travellers are in good health to participate in our cruises. Please inform us if you have any medical or physical conditions that we need to be aware of. The Kimberley Quest carries an extensive RFDS medical kit onboard for your well-being. The Royal Flying Doctor service (RFDS) is fully supported via phone consultation and instruction by qualified medical practitioners in the event of a medical emergency. The Kimberley Quest also carries general first aid kits in all tenders and accompanies all walks.
Please bring your own medication onboard including any seasickness medication and or paracetamol.
Please note that clients must bear the cost of any emergency medical or rescue services summoned at the discretion of the Master of the vessel in relation to any illness or injury. Please ensure that you take out travel insurance adequate to the eventuality prior to boarding (we provide discounted insurance, please enquire).
What to Bring
A maximum baggage allowance of 10kg per person in soft bags for easy stowage (7 day cruise only) Extra luggage weight is allowed for 14 day expeditions. Any additional spare luggage may be left at our safe and secure office.
In terms of personal items, you will be required to bring your own toiletries and any relevant medications. Environmentally friendly shampoo, conditioner and body wash is supplied. Sun protection and insect repellent are available onboard but you may wish to bring your own.
Casual lightweight / quick-dry clothing is recommended for excursions. Long pants and long sleeve tops for evenings are advisable as it can get cool at night. Please bring a hat, sunglasses, a pair of walking shoes; shoes that you don't mind getting wet (reef sandals or equivalent) and a separate pair to wear onboard. There are no strict dress codes for dining, just wear something that you are comfortable in.
We recommend that you bring a small day pack / bag for excursions to carry your water bottles, cameras and spare film. The Kimberley Quest stocks spare film and disposable cameras in case you run out! Binoculars are optional.
Transfers – 7 Day Expeditions
Broome – Mitchell Plateau [cruise/fly] departure is at approximately 5.00pm. Transfers are between 4.00 – 5.00pm and pick up time will be advised the day before to your accommodation or mobile number, if provided.
At the end of the cruise you are transferred by helicopter for a scenic flight over the Mitchell Plateau falls and then onto the air strip where your light aircraft awaits. The return scenic flight to Broome is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes and incorporates informative commentary from your pilot.
* Flights arrive in Broome between 2.15 – 4.15pm and guests are transferred to their accommodation.
Mitchell Plateau – Broome [fly/cruise] guests depart Broome between 8.30am – 10.30am. Transfer times to Gate 6 at Broome Airport will be confirmed to your accommodation or mobile number, if provided, the day before departure.
Disembarkation is at approximately 8.15am. For guests who are staying in Broome, Kimberley Quest will deliver your luggage to your accommodation. For guests who fly out on the same day, Kimberley Quest will hold your luggage and at your last onboard breakfast, pre arrange to meet you before your flight and transfer you and your luggage to the airport.
Planes: We charter Broome Aviation for all our flight transfers. Cessna 210s are used. These take a maximum of 4 passengers and the pilot. The flight is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes scenic flight. Toilet facilities are available at the Broome Airport and the Mitchell Plateau. We advise guest to take a small bottle of water for the flight.
Helicopters: Kununurra Company Heliwork WA is our service provider. The helicopter used is a Bell Jetranger 406 and takes 4 passengers and a pilot, for a ½ hour scenic transfer flight.
*For both plane and helicopter transfers passenger and baggage weights are required prior to boarding. Please forward this information onto our office
Transfers 13 Day Expeditions
Broome – Wyndham guests are picked up between 4.00 – 5.00pm for an approximate 5.00pm departure. On arrival in Wyndham guests disembark at approx 7.30am for a transfer to Kununurra [approx 1 hour by road & provided by Triple J Tours] usually arriving by 9.00am. Guests are taken to their accommodation or the Kununurra Airport.
Wyndham – Broome guests will be collected at approximately 3.30pm from Kununurra [Triple J Tours] to Wyndham for a 5.00pm departure. Disembarkation is at approximately 8.15am. For guests who are staying in Broome, Kimberley Quest will deliver your luggage to your accommodation. For guests who fly out on the same day, Kimberley Quest will hold your luggage and at your last onboard breakfast, pre arrange to meet you before your flight and transfer you to the airport.
