Day 1. Arrive Darwin, Embark Ship
Arrive in Darwin and be transferred to your boutique ship, the MS Caledonian Sky, for what promises to be an epic journey. Enjoy dinner on board as you set sail.
Day 2. At sea
Become familiar with your small expedition ship and its outstanding facilities as you enjoy a full day at sea.
Day 3. Koolama Bay, King George River and Falls
Wake up in Koolama Bay, named after a merchant ship bombed by the Japanese in World War II. Arriving at King George River, the highlight is sure to be King George Falls. The highest single drop falls in Western Australia, it plunges approximately 80 metres over a magnificent sandstone cliff.
Day 4. Vansittart Bay, Jar Island
With your Expedition Team, walk across salt flats to view the wreckage of a US Air Force DC3 which crash landed on the beach during World War II. Later, visit Jar Island and discover the island’s Indigenous rock art gallery. See examples of the Kimberley’s mysterious Bradshaw (Gwion Gwion) paintings.
Day 5. Bigge Island
Off the coast of the Kimberley, approximately 6 kilometres from the mainland, Bigge Island is filled with fantastic wildlife viewing opportunities. The island is well known for its Indigenous Australian rock art, which was created by the Wunambal people. In caves throughout the island, you will be able to see paintings including examples of first contact art and Wandjina figures.
Day 6. Prince Frederick Harbour, Hunter River, Mitchell Falls
Arrive at Prince Frederick Harbour, home to soaring red cliffs and mangroves. With its extreme tidal system and pristine ecosystem, there is an incredible range of wildlife to discover here including saltwater crocodiles, mudskippers and birds. Explore the Hunter River and visit Naturalist Island where an optional helicopter flight to Mitchell Falls departs (additional expense).
Day 7. Careening Bay, Prince Regent Reserve, St George’s Basin
Visit Careening Bay, the home of the Mermaid boab tree, and where Phillip Parker King was forced to beach his damaged ship HMC Mermaid in 1820. You’ll explore Prince Regent Nature Reserve, a protected area, and cruise St George’s Basin.
Day 8. Montgomery Reef, Doubtful Bay, Raft Point
Embark on an unforgettable adventure today as the magnificent Montgomery Reef ‘rises’ out of the ocean as the tidal waters cascade down into the surrounding channels. Board your Zodiac to experience this natural phenomenon up close and discover the reef’s diverse marine life. Cruise through Doubtful Bay, an amazing location for whale watching during the season. Then travel ashore at Raft Point to visit a Wandjina art site with a local guide.
Day 9. Talbot Bay, Horizontal Falls
Embark on an unforgettable adventure today as the magnificent Montgomery Reef ‘rises’ out of the ocean as the tidal waters cascade down into the surrounding channels. Board your Zodiac to experience this natural phenomenon up close and discover the reef’s diverse marine life. Cruise through Doubtful Bay and land at Raft Point to visit an ancient Wandjina rock art site with a local guide.
Day 10. Buccaneer Archipelago, Adele Island
Cruise the spectacular Buccaneer Archipelago, home to more than 800 islands and then arrive at Adele Island and explore this important location for breeding seabirds. Savour a Farewell Dinner this evening.
Day 11. Disembark Cruise, Depart Broome
After breakfast, be transferred to either Broome Airport or your Broome hotel.
