Day 1. Broome, Boab Prison Tree, Gibb River Road, Tunnel Creek, Windjana Gorge

This morning, begin your adventure with a visit to the Boab Prison Tree before your journey along the Gibb River Road. Pass through a spectacular landscape of intensely coloured ranges, dramatic gorges, deep rock pools and tumbling waterfalls. Travel to Tunnel Creek and wade through the cool waters to view the wonderful oasis beyond. At Windjana Gorge, see the ancient marine fossils embedded in the gorge walls and spot freshwater crocodiles lazing on the banks of the Lennard River. Arrive at the stunning Bell Gorge Wilderness Lodge.

Day 2. Bell Gorge, Hiking and Swimming

Back on the Gibb River Road, travel to Bell Gorge, where rugged cliffs surround a series of tiered waterholes. Take a swim beneath the waterfall, spot the fascinating birdlife, or perhaps take an energetic hike.

Day 3. Galvans Gorge, Home Valley Station

Travel through the heart of Kimberley cattle country to discover the beautifully secluded Galvans Gorge. Admire the rock art or indulge in a leisurely swim in the refreshing waters. Rejoin the Gibb River Road and continue on to Barnett River Gorge where you will enjoy a delicious picnic. After lunch, ford the mighty Durack River and arrive at Home Valley Station. This evening, enjoy a delicious dinner.

Day 4. Home Valley Station, Emma Gorge

Enjoy a fascinating tour of Home Valley Station before fording the Pentecost River to El Questro Wilderness Park. Take an optional hike to Emma Gorge, where you can indulge in a refreshing swim beneath the towering droplet waterfall. Delight in a sumptuous dinner at your picturesque resort.

Day 5. Ord River, Lake Kununurra

Join a guided cruise to Lake Kununurra and view the ruggedly dramatic landscape of the mighty Ord River. Admire the breathtaking scenery, fascinating bird life and lurking crocodiles of this truly timeless land.

Day 6. Purnululu National Park

Journey to Purnululu National Park. One of Australia’s most fascinating landmarks, the park is home to the famed black and orange striped domes of the Bungle Bungle Range. Standing above a woodland and grass-covered plain, steep cliffs feature on the western side. The range has both geological and Indigenous cultural significance. Hike into Echidna Chasm, a spectacular cleft in the rock, before settling in to the tranquillity of your wilderness lodge.

Day 7. Piccaninny Creek, Cathedral Gorge

Today, discover the magic of Purnululu for yourself and learn that it’s not just the Bungle Bungle Range that makes this region so incredible. Walk along Piccaninny Creek, a winding gorge within the high walls of the amazing Bungles. Your next stop is the natural amphitheatre of Cathedral Gorge, a spacious cavern reaching skywards, where you can test your vocal chords. As you wander through, marvel at the beehive domes while your guide brings the natural history of the range to life. You may like to enjoy an optional scenic helicopter flight over the domes – own expense. Savour a truly magnificent sight as the sun sets to accentuate the vibrant colours of the earth.

Day 8. Halls Creek, Fitzroy Crossing

Farewell the Bungle Bungle Range and visit Halls Creek. See the unusual China Wall, a natural quartz formation that runs from a small creek over a gentle hill. Continue to Fitzroy Crossing, a small settlement situated on the Fitzroy River.

Day 9. Geikie Gorge, Broome

Journey into Geikie Gorge National Park this morning. Explore Geikie Gorge, situated at the junction of the Oscar and Geikie Ranges. Board a unique cruise along the stunning gorge and learn more about the beautiful flora and fauna of this spectacular region. After lunch, return to Broome where your remarkable journey comes to an end.

ACTIVITY LEVEL

A good level of fitness and health is required to participate in APT’s holiday packages.  Some sightseeing excursions will involve the climbing of stairs and walking over uneven surfaces and in some cases walking over rocks and through shallow streams.
